- Source BioScience Wins Cervical Cancer Screening Contract Worth Upto £5 Million Over Five Years
30 Jun 2010
Source BioScience plc (LSE: SBS), the provider of expert, quality services to the healthcare, pharma biotech and life science research sector, is pleased to announce that it has won the tender to supply cytology services to Cervical Screening Wales (‘CSW’) for the second time. As a result of successfully winning the competitive tender, Source BioScience will provide CSW with cytology services until July 2013, with the option to extend the agreement for a further two years.
Part of the agreement is to enable Cervical Screening Wales to trial automated imaging technology within their cervical cancer screening programme.
• Contract to supply liquid based cytology equipment and reagents for three years, with the option to extend to five years
• Revenue of £0.8 million per annum for liquid based cytology
• Potential additional revenue of up to £0.25 million per annum on adoption and full roll out of automated imaging by CSW, which is anticipated during 2011
Source BioScience has been providing CSW with cytology services since the award of the first liquid based cytology contract back in 2004. This was the first contract to be awarded following the NICE approval of liquid based cytology for the UK. During 2009 CSW exercised its option under that original agreement to extend the contract for a further 12 months to July 2010.
Winning the latest tender provides yet another vote of confidence for Source BioScience’s cytology services. Source BioScience has a long standing relationship with CSW and is working towards further strengthening this relationship with implementation of FocalPoint automation. CSW will continue with its planned assessment of the FocalPoint automated imaging system until the end of the year and will then look to roll out the system in full.
Dr Nick Ash, Managing Director of Source BioScience said: “The decision of Cervical Screening Wales to award the liquid based cytology supply agreement to Source BioScience for the second time represents a significant vote of confidence in the service and support that we have provided over the past six years.
“We are delighted to be able to continue our excellent relationship with everyone at Cervical Screening Wales and look forward to further strengthening this partnership over the next few years.”
